Just a few weeks ago, the team at FuturLab officially celebrated the 2nd anniversary of PowerWash Simulator – a surprisingly popular casual co-op simulator. Since launch, the game has seen a ton of crossovers and collabs, including but not limited to Final Fantasy VII; SpongeBob Square Pants; Tomb Raider and more. In perhaps the most unexpected collab yet, Shrek x PowerWash Simulator has now been announced.

Officially unveiled during the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase and arriving this Autumn, the PowerWash Simulator Shrek Special Pack allows you to:

“Wash away your worries and live happily ever after to the soothing sounds of high-pressure water, carefully ridding nostalgic locations from villainous muck! In this hero’s journey, players will clean up the grime covering five iconic maps from the Shrek Universe, including Shrek's Swamp, Dragon's Lair and three other unrevealed locations.”

Though no price has been officially confirmed, all prior paid crossover DLCs for the game have cost £6.50 – so expect it to be in the same ballpark.

Despite the last mainline Shrek film releasing all the way back in 2010, the character and series remains as popular to this day thanks in part to Shrek himself achieving meme status – and so this collab could be PowerWash Simulator’s biggest yet.

More than 40 years on from its initial debut and Tetris remains one of the best video games of all time. In celebration of this series’ important role in the history of the industry, a new compilation title known as ‘Tetris Forever’ has now been announced.

Officially unveiled during the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase (though coming to all platforms), Tetris Forever is a compilation title developed by retro specialists Digital Eclipse featuring “more than 15 different classic Tetris games while exploring the history of the series through over an hour of all-new documentary footage.”

No release date for the game has been given, though it is stated to arrive sometime this year – so hopefully we will hear more from it soon.

Alongside this, Nintendo also revealed that the classic NES Tetris title (arguably one of the two most iconic versions of the game) is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service later this Winter.

Over the past 40 years there have been countless versions and variants of Tetris, yet the fundamentals always stay the same. It is not surprising to see that almost half a century later, Tetris is still as celebrated as ever.

Over the course of the past generation, the Yakuza [Like a Dragon] series has gone from being a relatively niche franchise to one of SEGA’s biggest. Aided by the release of a remake of the original PS2 Yakuza back in 2016, the Like a Dragon series has seen strong growth thanks in part to its multiplatform shift. Finally, after appearing on PlayStation, PC and Xbox, Yakuza Kiwami is coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the 2005 PS2 game in which you as Kazuma Kiryu:

“Take the fall for a murder and emerge from prison 10 years later to yakuza clans on the brink of a war that hurtles you on an intense journey of love, humanity, and betrayal, fueled by your fists and unyielding resolve, set against a bustling red-light district in modern day Japan.”

Yakuza Kiwami ran at 1080p 60fps on the original PS4, and so it will be interesting to see whether the team at RGG studio have been able to maintain such a resolution/performance on the much more modest Nintendo Switch.

The trailer itself seems to indicate as much, but we will have to wait and see. Yakuza Kiwami comes to the Nintendo Switch on the 24th of October.

Since as far back as 2022, we have been hearing rumours, leaks and other various reports claiming that Sony is working on a PS5 Pro, with plans to launch sometime in 2024. Hot on the heels of Gamescom – in which the console was said to be an “open secret” – one insider is claiming the mid-gen refresh will likely be announced next month.

During the most recent episode of the Game Mess Mornings Podcast, known industry insider Jeff Grubb spoke on the current state of the PS5 Pro, saying:

“Last I heard, this thing [PS5 Pro] is still coming out this year. And more recently what I've heard is there is probably going to be a State of Play, a Sony PlayStation State of Play – not a Showcase – a State of Play, at the end; by the end of September.”

As mentioned, the discussion surrounding the PS5 Pro has been heating up recently, with further evidence of its imminence including a secret PS5 Pro mode which was recently added to No Man’s Sky.

If a State of Play is indeed coming sometime next month, then hopefully we will officially hear about the PS5 Pro then. We won’t have to wait too long to find out.

While General Nintendo Directs are quite a rare affair, the Switch maker keeps players content with plenty of 3rd party showcases throughout the year. Set to go live later today, Nintendo has announced its latest Indie World Showcase – as well as a joint Partner Showcase.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Nintendo UK page shared the following: “Join us…August 27th at 15:00 (UK time), for an #IndieWorld Showcase followed by a #NintendoDirect: Partner Showcase! The livestream, featuring both presentations back-to-back, will be roughly 40 minutes in total.”

As expected, the company made sure to note that “there will be no mention of the #NintendoSwitch successor during either of these presentations.”

Despite not being a General Direct, having two smaller showcases back-to-back does seem to suggest that we could be getting a couple neat announcements. Hollow Knight: Silksong perhaps?

There was once a time when PlayStation stood competitive in both the home and handheld console markets, releasing classic systems such as the PSP and PS Vita. Unfortunately, the financial failings of the latter system saw Sony leave the handheld space. In the wake of the success of the PS Portal however, the console manufacturer is reportedly “paying close attention to the handheld market.”

As reported by known leaker Tom Henderson, “The PlayStation Portal was very successful and [Sony] are paying very close attention to the current handheld market.”

As mentioned by Henderson, the PlayStation Portal has been a surprise hit, with the remote play powered handheld exceeding PlayStation’s expectations – and is even the no.1 best selling gaming accessory of the year so far.

Beyond this, the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Switch as well as the positive energy surrounding PC handhelds such as the Steam Deck clearly shows that there is still a market for portable gaming. Hopefully Sony is indeed listening.

Star Wars Outlaws marks Ubisoft’s first major foray into the Star Wars Universe. Developed by Massive Entertainment, the game is set to arrive on the 30th of August. Ahead of this however, critic reviews for the open-world title have gone live – revealing another title in line with Ubisoft’s typical offerings.

With a Metacritic and Opencritic score of 77, Star Wars Outlaws lands neatly in line with many of Ubisoft’s releases in recent years. Similarly, the game appears to fall into many of those same trappings, including “simple stealth, repetitive combat, and a few too many bugs at launch.”

While perhaps not the warmest of receptions, Star Wars Outlaws still has a long journey ahead of it, with a Season Pass already announced and unveiled – showing off its post-launch DLC including two story packs and a couple cosmetic bundles.

That said, launch day bugs aside, it is unlikely that Ubisoft will be able to fix many of the issues associated with the game via updates/patches – not without some serious reworking.

Still, what matters most is what fans and players think of the game, and so we will have to wait and see how Outlaws is received when it officially launches later this week.

Once viewed as vapourware, Black Myth: Wukong finally released on the 20th of August to a massive wave of success, selling millions of copies immediately and becoming the 2nd most concurrently-played game of all time on Steam – with more than 3 million concurrents across PC and PS5. Just 3 days on from its launch, the game had already sold over 10 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team behind Black Myth: Wukong – Game Science – announced that the title has “sold 10 million copies across all platforms. (Data as of 21:00 Beijing time, August 23, 2024),” adding “Thanks to all players worldwide for your support and love.”

While it may seem as though Black Myth: Wukong blew up out of nowhere, the game has been in the back of many players’ minds ever since it was first revealed back in 2020.

Additionally, being developed by a Chinese studio, the game has proven to be a major hit in its country of origin, with reports stating that “Sony Group Corp. ran a sales promotion for its PlayStation 5 in China for the week around Wukong’s launch and saw stores sell out of the console.”

With Black Myth: Wukong becoming one of the fastest selling games of all time in a 3 day period (surpassing Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy), it’ll be interesting to see just how much more the game will grow over the course of the rest of the year.

In the wake of its position as one of the most valuable companies in the world, Amazon has been trying to break into the video games industry through the acquisition of Twitch, the creation of its Amazon Luna streaming service, and of course the launch of Amazon Games. Unfortunately, the company’s relative newness within the industry has led to some highly out-of-touch statements from Amazon Games CEO – especially with regards to generative AI.

In an interview conducted by IGN, Amazon Games boss Christoph Hartmann sat down to discuss all manner of topics, ranging from the company’s upcoming Lord of the Rings MMO to their recent acquisition of the Tomb Raider IP.

Perhaps most interesting however was Hartmann’s opinions on the rise of generative AI as a replacement for various aspects of game development, saying in response to a question on the current SAG-AFTRA voice actors strike relating to AI:

“When we talk about AI, first of all, hopefully it will help us to have new gameplay ideas, which has nothing to do with taking work away from anyone. And especially for games, we don't really have acting… The majority of the team sits in programming and that's not going to go away because that's all about innovation. If it takes something, it will be really the boring parts.”

Hartmann continued, “I think what could be super helpful is localization. Right now, we're localizing our game into a certain set of languages. Basically, does it commercially make sense to have it in a language, yes or no? Having AI actually will help us.”

Beyond the baffling statement that games “don’t really have acting,” Hartmann’s claimed benefits for AI would still take away a whole sector of the game development industry – that being localisation – while likely doing a terrible job at it. The full, and lengthy, interview can be found HERE.

With the 9th generation of consoles, Microsoft opted to take an interesting route with its console strategy – releasing two systems at the same time on the polar ends of the power spectrum. In the years since, we have seen some developers struggle to bring their games to Xbox due to the Series S. Adding further fuel to the flames, yet another dev has now revealed their own struggles with the system.

In response to the success of the most recent multiplatform title to miss launching on Xbox due to the Series S – Black Myth: Wukong – Del Walker, a video game artist who has worked across the industry (including at Naughty Dog; Rocksteady and Respawn Entertainment) had this to say:

“I wish the Series S never existed, man. So annoying to optimize for that console – I expect we'll unfortunately see more game launches get skipped by Xbox in the future,” adding that “I just DO NOT like having to optimize current gen games for that console and I wish it never existed. Xbox Series X is an amazing piece of hardware though; fantastic console.”

Offering a bit more on the specifics, Walker added, “I wish people understood it's NOT about the game. It's just annoying to make a high end game with complex Ai, VFX, Advanced Physics, Multi-threading Optimization, Particle Systems, Dynamic Memory Demands, etc etc then chop all that out so it also plays the SAME on an Xbox S.”

As mentioned, quite a few games now have either skipped the Xbox or arrived later due to the Series S, with the most notable being Baldur’s Gate 3 and the aforementioned Black Myth: Wukong.

While the Xbox Series S may have seemed like a good idea at the time, it appears as though the system has run into quite a few unintended issues.

Since as far back as 2022, we have been hearing rumours, leaks and other various reports claiming that Sony is working on a PS5 Pro, with plans to launch sometime in 2024. While the console manufacturer has yet to officially unveil this mid-gen refresh, the unannounced console was reportedly an ‘open secret’ at Gamescom.

According to Wccftech, many separate parties claimed during Gamescom that the PlayStation 5 Pro is indeed real and will likely be unveiled soon, with the Italian website ‘Multiplayer’ revealing claims from one dev that their team had delayed their game due to the upcoming launch of the PS5 Pro – a sentiment echoed by another separate dev team.

In total, it seems a bunch of different developers of different sizes all confirmed to different publications that they were either aware of or are currently working with the PS5 Pro – all-but-confirming its imminent announcement.

Of course, the existence of the PS5 Pro was evident, with the likes of Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky having already gotten a secret PS5 Pro graphics setting.

Over the past few years, the Steam platform has seen strong and consistent growth, with the PC-based service reaching record numbers of concurrent players every few months. After hitting 36 million concurrents back in March, the platform has reached a new milestone – with more than 37 million Steam users logging in at the same time.

Back in March, Steam reached a new record of current users, with over 36.3 million players online all at once. As has been the case for a while now, the total number of concurrents has continued to steadily rise – reaching yet another record of 36.9 million back in June.

Once again, the service has now outdone itself, reaching a total of 37 million concurrent users for the first time ever (37,266,324 to be specific according to SteamDB).

Of course, peak concurrents is just one way to observe Steam’s success. That said, when looking at average monthly player counts, the service is no slouch either, with nearly 27 million players on average over the past 30 days.

Being able to publicly see just how much Steam is continuing to grow more than a decade on from its launch is interesting for multiple reasons – including pure curiosity. It likely won’t be long before the platform hits 40 million concurrents.

That said, following the recent reveal of the Dead Rising remaster, Capcom have claimed that they plan to “bring back many” of their dormant IPs.

The upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster represents first appearance of the IP since 2016’s Dead Rising 4, with Capcom claiming that this marks just the beginning of their revitalisation of older franchises, saying in an interview with IGN:

Despite the fact that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is set to release in just a few months, the team at Asobo Studio are continuing to add new features and improvements to 2020’s MSFS – with World Update XVII revamping Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Asobo Studios unveiled the latest World Update, saying:

“Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, collectively known as DACH (Deutschland, Austria, Confoederatio Helvetica), offer an incredibly diverse array of landscapes and architecture to explore. Highlights include the Swiss Alps, mountain lakes, expansive forests, historic castles and cathedrals, and modern architectural feats. The Microsoft Flight Simulator team partnered with Bing Maps, Vexcel Imaging, Maxar Technologies, Gaya Simulations, and Orbx Simulation Systems to bring these countries to the Microsoft Flight Simulator world in all-new ways.”

The update is a rather meaty one, bringing with it a revamp of 10 cities (Linz, Salzburg, and Vienna in Austria; Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hanau, Karow, and Potsdam in Germany as well as Bern and Zurich in Switzerland) – with the remainder of region also getting a welcome albeit smaller boost in visuals.

Beyond this, the update includes 116 new points of interest (42 in Germany, 38 in Austria, and 36 in Switzerland) as well as 3 new handcrafted airports: Austria’s Salzburg Airport (LOWS), Germany’s Munich Airport (EDDM), and Bern Airport (LSZB) in Switzerland.

Last but not least, the update brings with it 9 additional activities in the form of three discovery flights, three landing challenges, and three bush trips. Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update XVII is available right now.

Considering the fact that the game just released a few months ago back in April, EA removing DENUVO from Tales of Kenzera: ZAU relatively early is a welcome move.

For the uninitiated, major video game releases are typically front loaded sales-wise, with a large portion of the game’s revenue being amassed from pre-orders and day-one sales – leading publishers to feel as though they need to protect these early sales through DRM such as DENUVO.

DENUVO in particular has historically been the cause of many issues, both performance and graphics related and so its removal only serves to benefit the gaming experience overall.

That said, despite being published by EA, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is a small project from a small team, and so the inclusion of DENUVO at all was a curious one. Still, its removal is more than welcome.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Tales of Kenzera: ZAU? Why do you think EA bothered with DRM? Does DRM in games affect you? Let us know down below.

Striking Distance Studios is a relatively new team known for their work on 2022’s The Callisto Protocol. Though the game received a somewhat mixed reception, the team are continuing to evolve the setting of Callisto: announcing a new – very different – game known as [REDACTED].

Making the announcement via an official reveal trailer, the team at Striking Distance Studios officially unveiled project Birdseye as [REDACTED]: “A fast-action isometric roguelike [in which] a shadowy agent watches Black Iron Prison spiral into chaos. As one of the last guards, fight through monsters, rivals, and reanimated corpses of your fellow guards to escape the penitentiary alive.”

For the uninitiated, Black Iron is described as “a state-of-the-art penitentiary located on Jupiter’s icy moon Callisto” which has been overrun by infected inmates. Of course, fans of the studio’s prior work will be familiar with the setting, as [REDACTED] appears to be set in the same world as The Callisto Protocol.

There is still much to learn about the game, but luckily, those waiting won’t have to do so for long, as the game is set to launch on the 31st of October – just in time for Halloween.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the trailer? Are you interested in [REDACTED]? Did Striking Distance Studios punch too far above their weight with the first game? Let us know down below.

Recently, Valve has been pushing out a ton of updates for its Steam platform. From a revamp of its review priority system; to a refresh of its family sharing feature, the company has been quite rapidly improving Steam. The latest update is a small but appreciated one – introducing further Steam Deck integrations into the platform.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Steam Deck page shared the following:

“Good morning! We’ve just shipped a new feature on Steam that shows when a customer review was written by someone who played primarily on Steam Deck. Keep an eye out for the Deck icon to see how these players reviewed the game, and let us know what you think!”

With the increase in adoption of the Steam Deck it makes a great deal of sense for Deck users to be highlighted as such in reviews – especially as it allows for a more informed purchase. Hopefully Valve continues to cook at this current pace.

Sea of Thieves marked one of the first Xbox exclusive games to come to PS5 as part of the company’s recent multi-platform pivot. So far, it seems as though this shift in strategy is paying off, as Sea of Thieves has reportedly sold over a million copies on PS5 since its launch a few months ago.

Sea of Thieves arrived on PS5 in late April 2024, seeing a strong reception from Sony players – with the title reaching the top spot on the PSN Store in May.

While no official sales figures have been shared, according to Windows Central, trusted sources have indicated to the publication that “Sea of Thieves has crossed a million sales on PlayStation since its launch over there, and is most likely higher still since this information came to me.”

With Microsoft focusing on Game Pass for many years now, we don’t actually have official sales figures for Sea of Thieves on other platforms (though it was revealed to have been played by over 40 million people). That said, 1 million copies for a game which is now over 6 years old is certainly an achievement – and is likely why Microsoft is choosing to bring more Xbox games over.

Risk of Rain is an excellent roguelike featuring tons of enemies, online co-op and much more. Released just ahead of the most recent generation of consoles, the game launched in late 2020 for the PS4 and Xbox One. In a welcome move, the team have announced a substantial – and free – current-gen upgrade arriving next week.

Launching the 27th of August, Risk of Rain 2 is getting a bespoke PS5 / Xbox Series X release, bringing a ton of welcome and exciting upgrades. Alongside the expected additions – such as 4K60fps – Risk of Rain 2 on current-gen systems will also add local split-screen co-op for the friendly vibes.

The update also brings a few system specific enhancements, with progressive achievements/Trophies on Xbox and PlayStation respectively.

PS5 also gets a few more bonus additions, including the use of the system’s Activities feature as well as lightbar/speaker functionality for the DualSense. It is currently unknown whether the PS5 version will use the controller’s advanced haptics or adaptive triggers – though it seems unlikely.

Regardless, with how hectic Risk of Rain 2 can get in later biomes, having a bespoke 4K60fps version of the game alone is a big upgrade – and so the rest is a pure bonus, especially for free.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Risk of Rain 2? Did you prefer the first game? Should they try and add a 120fps mode? Let us know down below.

Stellar Blade is one of the most discussed PS5 exclusives of the year. Released back in April, the game saw a great deal of success, helping studio SHIFT UP to expand their team and even take the company public. During a recent investor meeting, the studio revealed that they plan to bring Stellar Blade to PC in the near future.

As part of the company’s latest investor meeting (and translated by Twitter user Genki_JPN), studio SHIFT UP confirmed that a PC version of Stellar Blade is in the works with the team stating that they are “preparing to release Stellar Blade on PC in the near future.”

While already a certified success on PlayStation (selling over 1 million copies in a couple months), the team expects Stellar Blade to perform even better when it arrives on PC – and given the talk surrounding the game, this wouldn’t be too surprising.

Regardless, it is welcome to see Stellar Blade coming to additional platforms. Hopefully we get a more concrete release window soon enough.

Star Wars Outlaws is just over a week away, with the game set to launch on the 30th of August. Unsurprisingly, some people have gotten their hands on the title early, revealing some interesting inclusions. Despite no official word from Ubisoft themselves, Star Wars Outlaws actually includes a much-appreciated 40fps mode on PS5 and Xbox.

For many, 40fps represents the perfect compromise between typical graphics and performance modes – offering a Goldilocks-like balanced experience. According to those who have gotten early hands on with the game, Star Wars Outlaws offers 3 different performance options:

  • Quality (30fps)
  • Favour Quality (40fps)
  • Performance (60fps)

While we don’t yet have any detailed comparisons between the versions, based on previous titles expect the 40fps mode to appear visually similar to the 30fps quality mode – but with twice the smoothness.

Of course, we will have to wait and see whether this 40fps mode is able to maintain a steady framerate, but regardless, it is encouraging to see more and more devs supporting 40fps in their console games.

Each month, just as how they bring a bunch of new games to the PS Plus service, Sony also removes a number of games. Unfortunately, next month’s line-up of departees includes a massive first-party title in the form of Horizon Forbidden West.

In going to the PlayStation Plus section on your PS5, you’ll find a list of 12 titles under the ‘Last Chance to Play’ section. Leaving the service at some point next month (likely the 17th) are the following:

  • Alien Isolation
  • Cloudpunk
  • Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Marvel's Midnight Suns
  • NieR Replicant
  • Spiritfarer
  • Star Ocean: First Departure R
  • Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Star Ocean: The Divine Force
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

Of course, easily the biggest and most surprising title set to leave is Horizon Forbidden West – not only because of this critical and commercial success, but also due to the fact that it is a first-party PlayStation title.

Oddly enough, one of the few other first-party titles to leave the service was Horizon Zero Dawn a couple months ago – though at the time we speculated it may be due to the long-rumoured remake.

Regardless, PlayStation removing first-party titles from its own service is a major blow to PS Plus as a whole, and sets a troubling precedent for the future of the service.

As part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass revamp last year, the console manufacturer unveiled a new tier of its subscription service. Replacing Xbox Live Gold, Game Pass Core offers console owners the ability to play games online as well as giving access to a limited line-up of games. Four months on from the last update, 3 new titles are set to join Game Pass Core.

Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire blog, Megan Spurr – the Senior Community Lead for Xbox Game Pass revealed the next line-up of games joining the service, saying: “Welcome back, friends! We have more games for you, new Perks, and a limited time beta to talk about!”

With that, the list of titles set to join Game Pass over the next few weeks is as follows:

  • Atlas Fallen (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – August 22
  • Core Keeper (Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) – August 27
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Early Access Beta – August 30
  • Star Trucker (Cloud, Console, and PC) – September 3 [Day One Addition]

As mentioned, the relatively-limited Xbox Game Pass Core library has also gotten a small boost, with the 2nd of its tri-annual updates bringing 3 additional titles later today:

  • Cities: Skylines
  • Control: Ultimate Edition
  • SnowRunner

Unfortunately, as always, Microsoft giveth and Microsoft taketh away – with 3 titles also set to leave the regular Game Pass service on the 31st of August:

  • Atomic Heart (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Guilty Gear -Strive- (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has not had the smoothest of times since its announcement all the way back in 2019. In the 5 years since, the game has changed development studios multiple times and suffered from a bunch of delays. Unfortunately, yet another has been announced, with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 retreating into the night as the release date has now been pushed back to 2025.

Releasing a development update via a YouTube video and blogpost, Alex Skidmore – the Creative Director for Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 – and Deputy CEO for Paradox Interactive ‘Mattias Lilja’ shared the following statement:

“We have decided to extend development. This decision gives The Chinese Room extra time to spend on the game to deliver the best Bloodlines 2 they can. The game is in a good place right now, and Paradox and The Chinese Room have decided to prioritize polish over release date.”

Despite yet another delay, the team promised that this latest pushback will allow for additional content to be developed, including “more endings to the game, allowing it to be a more personal story,” while also giving the team space and time “to address feedback from our playtests in our user research lab and also to address the feedback we've been getting from all of you in response to our Dev Diaries and videos.”

Initially intended to release by the end of this year, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will now arrive some time in the first half of 2025. Of course, we will have to wait and see whether this’ll remain the case.

For the past many years, Sony has had a strong relationship with Square Enix – seeing the Japanese publisher release multiple Final Fantasy games exclusively for the PlayStation platform. Following the long-awaited announcement of Final Fantasy XVI for PC however, the game’s director has revealed that future entries may arrive day-and-date on multiple platforms.

With the official release date for the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI finally set for the 17th of September, the team at Square Enix have started discussing the wider future of Final Fantasy on PC.

As part of this FFXVI’s director Hiroshi Takai responded to a question asked by GamesRadar+ about the potential for future day-one PC releases, claiming that “I think it's possible – probably even likely. That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”

Despite just being Hiroshi Takai’s opinion, the sentiment seems to be shared by a majority of those at Square Enix – with the publisher already previously announcing plans to move away from timed-exclusivity. It’ll be interesting to see how FFXVI performs on PC and how it will affect Square’s future strategies.

Running at just 1080p with an uneven 30 fps frame cap, Bloodborne is overdue for some form of update. Unfortunately, in the almost 10 years since the release of the game, we have gotten little-to-nothing in the way of enhancements. That said, last month the PS4 emulator ShadPS4 managed to get the game booted up to the character creator. One month later, another major milestone has been achieved.

The latest ShadPS4 bb-hacks branch has brought with it optimisations and more to allow for much further progress into making Bloodborne actually fully playable on PC.

While the last milestone saw the emulator able to boot up Bloodborne all the way to the character creator menu (already a massive improvement over the prior attempts), the game can now be booted into the actual game – technically letting you play through it.

That said, as can be seen from the video, the visuals remain quite messy and so it is clear a lot more work is still necessary to get the game in a playable state. Still, after almost a decade of trying and hoping to get Bloodborne to run on PC, it seems we are closer than ever.

In recent weeks, Epic Games has been introducing quite a lot of changes to Fortnite. From its return to the iOS platform, the rumours that the game will get its own dedicated Marvel store and more, Epic is clearly looking to revamp the live-service game in some ways. The latest move now sees the introduction of a dedicated Fortnite Web Shop.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Fortnite account unveiled this latest feature, saying “Hey there, Web Shop. Fortnite Web Shop is live now!! A brand new way to view and purchase items currently in rotation. This Web Shop functions as an extension to the in-game Shop. Including the ability to apply Support-A-Creator codes to purchases!”

While the addition of a web shop is of course purely to incentivise players to purchase more skins and cosmetics (and possibly to avoid platform fees), the added convenience of having a web store is nice for those who are looking for a specific skin.

Furthermore, the web store itself seems pretty comprehensive so far, with you able to view full 3D models of the skins and items.

Given how often the Fortnite shop rotates its available cosmetics, being able to access the shop without needing to download/update Fortnite is a welcome quality of life improvement if nothing else.

Taking to Twitter, Kojima posted a cryptic image of a silhouetted character alongside the caption “WHO AM I?” – with a logo clearly indicating that this relates to Death Stranding 2.

As mentioned, with Opening Night Live set to begin later today at 7PM UK time, it is highly probable that we will be getting a new DS2 trailer featuring this mysterious character.

So far, just some of the new faces being introduced in the sequel include Elle Fanning; Shioli Kutsuna; Director Fatih Akin and the legendary George Miller of Mad Max fame. Of course, the sequel will also see the likes of Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker return to reprise their roles.

Eagle-eyed fans have seemed to figure out who this mysterious new character is, with the consensus being that it is Kenjiro Tsuda – a Japanese actor, voice actor, and film director with an incredibly lengthy list of roles and achievements.

As a voice actor, Tsuda has played the likes of Seto Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh; Hannes in Attack on Titan; Overhaul in My Hero Academia – and dozens if not hundreds of other roles. Perhaps most interestingly, Kenjiro Tsuda already featured in the first Death Stranding, voicing the Japanese dub for protagonist Sam Porter Bridges.

Clearly, based on the teaser, his role in the sequel will include his likeness, and so it is unknown whether he will also return to voice Sam. Regardless, hopefully this teaser is indicating that we’ll be getting a brand new trailer very soon.
